Australians Against Further Immigration was founded in 1988 in Melbourne, by Dr. Rodney Spencer and his wife Robyn Spencer. Denis McCormack joined AAFI, became National Secretary, and achieved wide renown as a researcher on immigration matters. AAFI later established branches in Sydney, Perth, Adelaide, and Canberra. Originally named Australians Against Immigration, it changed its name to Australians Against Further Immigration to avoid the potential for a perception that the organisation was against immigrants already in Australia. [1]
AAFI campaigned against immigration due to its negative effects upon Australia's environment, infrastructure, economy, and culture. AAFI contested several federal elections and by-elections. [2]
Around 1998 AAFI ceased to operate as a political party (although remaining as a pressure group), with its members joining One Nation and/or Australia First. Later, the operations of AAFI were continued by the Sydney branch. [3]
