National Action
Brief description
Jim Saleam
National Action was officially founded on 25th April (Anzac Day) 1982 in Sydney. A bookshop headquarters was opened in Tempe (a southern suburb of Sydney) in January 1983 [1]. Other branches were established in Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane, Coffs Harbour (New South Wales), and Port Lincoln (South Australia). The full name of the organisation was Australian National Action. Its first National Chairman was Jim Saleam.
National Action was an activist nationalist organisation, and campaigned against immigration, multiculturalism, and Asianisation. It also sought to establish a cultural basis for Australian nationalism by exploring issues of Australia's culture and national identity, especially promoting early Australian authors and iconic figures such as Henry Lawson, Jack Lang, Peter Lalor, and Ned Kelly.
The organisation split in 1990, with one National Action centred in Sydney (led by Jim Saleam), and another centred in Adelaide (led by Michael Brander). With Saleam in jail (for what has been alleged to be a political police frame-up) - and with NA members demoralised by the domestic shooting of one of its leading activists, as well as by the Adelaide split - the Sydney-centred National Action faded away from the public scene [2].
